Participating Organizations
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is the U.S. government sponsoring agency of the TAACF. The NIAID supports research on tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. The Project Officer for the TAACF
is Dr. Robert C. Goldman.
Southern Research Institute (SRI) provides medicinal chemistry and database expertise in Birmingham, AL and Frederick, MD. SRI's team of the TAACF, led by Dr. Jack Secrist, interacts with interested compound suppliers and coordinates all compound acquistion duties, data entry and database maintenance, testing coordination, and data report generation and delivery.
Colorado State University (CSU), with TAACF program facilities in Fort Collins, CO, performs macrophage assays and animal model studies for promising compounds that proceed beyond the preliminary screens. CSU implements an aerosol inoculation with virulent strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for its in vivo testing.
RTI International (RTI) manages the NIAIDs commercialization efforts from its headquarters office in Research Triangle Park, NC. To develop industry interest, RTI gathers global epidemiology and market data for new TB drugs. To facilitate commercialization, RTI works with compound suppliers to develop comprehensive promotional packages and to facilitate partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for drug development.
